How to choose your gold finish
We offer several materials and finishes because different jewelry lovers want different things.
There isn't one “best” choice. There's the choice that's right for you, your style, your budget, and how you plan to wear it.
Stainless Steel
Our silver-color stainless-steel chains are a great choice when you want a durable, versatile foundation for everyday jewelry.
They're especially useful for charm jewelry because our stronger structural links are made with 304 stainless steel.
If you love the look of silver, prefer a cooler metal tone, or simply want a practical everyday chain, stainless steel is an excellent choice.
Gold Plated
Love the look of gold?
Our gold-plated chains give you that warm, beautiful gold finish at a more approachable price than gold-filled jewelry.
We offer a variety of gold finishes, including 14K and 18K gold plating, depending on the chain style. Some are bright yellow gold, while others have antique, vintage, or more unusual gold tones.
Gold plating also allows us to offer beautifully detailed chain designs that can be sculpted, stamped, pressed, faceted, and textured.
Some of these intricate styles use a copper base because copper is better suited to creating those detailed shapes.
If you love a particular chain, don't worry about whether it's the “most expensive” option. Choose the one that makes you happy.
We won't try to talk you into upgrading simply because another material costs more.
Gold Filled
For those who want a premium gold option, we also offer a selection of 14K and 18K gold-filled chains.
Gold-filled jewelry contains a substantially thicker layer of gold that is mechanically bonded to its base metal than standard gold-plated jewelry. This makes gold-filled a wonderful choice for customers looking for more substantial gold content and extended wear.
Our gold-filled selection includes delicate chains that are particularly beautiful for:
- Layering
- Stacking
- Minimalist looks
- Pendants
- Dainty jewelry designs
Some of our decorative gold-filled chains are intentionally lightweight and are better suited to layering and pendants than heavy charm collections.
Because gold-filled chains vary considerably in construction and material cost, they are individually priced according to the chain you select.
Which One Is Right for You?
Want silver?
Choose stainless steel.
Want the look of gold at an approachable price?
Choose gold plated.
Want a premium gold option designed for extended wear?
Explore our gold-filled selections.
And here's the important part:
You don't have to “upgrade” to have beautiful jewelry.
Gold-filled is a lovely premium option, but it isn't automatically the right choice for every customer or every design.
We'd rather help you find something you love than convince you to spend more than you planned.
One More Thing About Gold Plating
We get asked about this constantly, so we're going to be honest about it.
Gold plating is a finish, not solid gold. Over time, normal wear can affect that finish.
Skin oils, perspiration, lotions, perfume, fabric softener residue, hard water, chlorine, household chemicals, and frequent moisture can all contribute to changes in appearance.
With proper care, you can help your gold-plated jewelry maintain its beautiful color much longer.
You'll find our complete jewelry care information with your purchase.
And while you may see jewelry advertised as “tarnish resistant,” “tarnish proof,” or “waterproof,” we don't believe those phrases should replace honest information about standard fashion jewelry materials. Only solid gold is truly waterproof and tarnish proof.
No gold-plated jewelry is permanently waterproof or immune to wear.
We'd rather tell you what you're buying and help you enjoy it for as long as possible.
